At Global Plant Genetics, we are developing an expanding portfolio of products within the nut category. This development is as a result of the increased interest in plant-based proteins, a trend that we only see increasing in the coming years.
We are proud to have ties to some of the best global plant breeders, particularly in pistachios and walnuts. New varieties emerging from these programmes look to be especially exciting with opportunities for production in both high and low-chilling growing environments. We have imported the Tejon, Gumdrop and Famoso pistachio varieties from the University of California, Davis into the EU for testing purposes. These have been added to the Durham walnut in the same territory, also from UC, Davis. Other important aspects that are being developed are nut size, yield, seasonality and precocity.
